In April 2017, Ideal Coworking (owned and managed by Charles Landriault) expanded to a new location and planned on having its main open desk space area operate as a flexible workspace in order to host occasional events and generate extra revenue. Charles contacted Alberto Palomino (a former coworking colleague at Ideal), knowing he had experience with industrial design, to help him create a foldable desk that would make the transformation process of the new workspace efficient without sacrificing aesthetic appeal.
Alberto’s designs were impressive and the two of them saw an opportunity to take the concept to the next level and respond to a very real and growing need within the rising flexible workspace industry. After building 3 consecutive prototypes, they realized they were lacking the technical expertise necessary to achieve a quality product that met their standards.
Ilann Derche, who happened to work in the new coworking space at the time, was the perfect candidate and potential partner. With his engineering background in aeronautics, he was no stranger to constructing efficient industrial equipment from lightweight materials. Ilann’s addition was the missing piece needed to finally create a satisfactory prototype.
Further discussions amongst the three partners led to visualizing a bright future for Stowdesk and its agile workstation. Ideas for additional options such as the battery pack, standing desk extension, screen holder and desk lamp made the team realize the potential for integrated solutions was fertile, exciting and promising.
